One of the arguments for the Bible’s divinity that I remember Bible thumpers using all the time is that the Bible is written by 40 different authors over the course of 15 centuries and yet it is totally cohesive and one book independently confirms the other. . . . and although any rational person can look at this argument and realize how silly it is, I just thought of a wonderful analogy to this . . .
Ebony and Stephanie’s Harry Potter story writing role playing game. These aren’t independent works. They’re very much collaborative works, with one author adding their own perspective to another’s writings. This is EXACTLY how the Bible was written. And yet, nobody’s arguing for the divine inspiration of Eb and Steph’s RPG due to it’s numerous authors.
I thought that Ben Stein was a smart guy seeing as how knowledgeable he was on Win Ben Stein’s Money on Comedy Central and who can forget him as the teacher in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? . . . But it turns out that Ben Stein is a Creationist who will soon have a documentary out arguing to put the “theory” of “Intelligent Design” in the science classroom . . . I don’t know if I find this more shocking or sad.
No, Ben, big science isn’t expelling smart ideas from the classroom. Big science is expelling DUMB ideas from the classroom, and “Intelligent Design” is a DUMB FUCKING IDEA that doesn’t deserve the honor of being called a theory by science standards. We all know that “Intelligent Design” is nothing more than Creationism in a cheap dress. Why they won’t admit this? Because they think they can fool people… Read More
Liberally minded people tend to always be behind the causes of giving equal rights to minorities, and yet they believe in the concept of democracy . . . the idea that the majority rules. Isn’t that just a little bit counterintuitive?
I always chuckle whenever someone thinks of democracy as the best government possible. A government based on majority rule? Really? LOL. I would rather our country was run by one extremely smart individual rather than the majority opinion of 200 million stupid people.
I think our country would be far far FAR better off if it were only the people with doctorate degrees on the subject of the issue at hand that were allowed to vote on the issue.
Moreover, our nation would be so infinitely better off if our government was only in charge of enforcing the principle of self-ownership for its citizens. That’s it. Everything else… Read More
That is the ultimate conversation stopper. I don’t understand why belief in something without evidence is supposed to be a good and noble thing to do. It’s totally preposterous. Can you think of ANY other instance where you’re willing to throw evidence out the window and believe in something on faith alone? Think about this . . . what do all cults have in common? That belief without evidence is supposed to be a virtue rather than an iniquity in every other instance. Why? Because these cult leaders know that they don’t have the evidence to back up their case!
People like to say that they believe in such and such because of faith. But in all honesty, that’s completely false. People believe in things for reasons. They might be personal, they might be evidential, but they are indeed reasons; which is a form of evidence. Simply believing in… Read More
So I’m for Ron Paul when it comes to free market and limited government (which is why I seem to be such a Ron Paul advocate, because people never gave libertarian ideas the light of day until Ron Paul came along), but I’m for Dennis Kucinich when it comes to civil liberties, and every other day I’m changing my mind between whether Ron Paul’s plan or John McCain’s plan is the right way to go with the war. This fucking sucks. . . especially when considering that in all likelihood none of these people will be elected.
PS. I don’t get why gay people are so behind Hillary Clinton when she only endorses this civil union bullshit . . . and Kucinich is the only one on the stage actually supporting gay marriage.
