Unintended Consequences of The New Tobacco Tax

So it seems Obama’s promise to cut taxes on 95% of Americans is a load of shit. He’s increased the taxes of cigarettes by $0.62-$1.01 per pack. And who happens to smoke the most? The lower class. Once again, all the best intentions with all the worst unintended consequences. Although this will marginally lower the number of smokers, the side effect will be creating a higher demand for black market cigarettes which have no tax attached to them. In other words the government has committed entrapment by financially forcing poor smokers to become criminals and buy cigarettes on the black market which will inevitably further crowd our already crowded prisons with nonviolent offenders. Great job, Obama. Reduce the amount of smokers and make criminals out of the rest of them; get more tax revenue from higher cigarette taxes and spend away all that new revenue on making for higher prison
